While cross mod compatibility is nice it doesn't warrant a hard dependency on another mod imo. Because such a mod could cease to be updated (unlikely with FMP but still a valid concern). I rather have a mod with its own system (which btw is older than RP2 covers for both BC and IC2 iirc) than a dependency on yet another mod.

IC2 was one of the first big mods for minecraft. I'd rather say many mods "copied" stuff from IC2 and added their own flavor on the way. IC2 exists for a really long time now and there isn't much left it could add. It also always had a rather tedious tiered crafting system. The only thing i currently would complain about is the new energy system.

Stock BC factory blocks (quarry, filler, pump, ...) have large internal buffers, up to 100x or more the cost of an operation. IC2 Experimental builds ... I see that BC dies, because of the awesomeness and bugfreeness of Redpower. I know some people suggested something similar to this, and its on the TO-DO-List, but these Treads are old and we need more uses for BC aside from burning Oil/Fuel.
The plan is to release this in a similar way as IC 2 did with a beta, a 1.0 version, then work on SMP. As it is now SMP requires me to edit a lot the IC2 and BC code to provide hooks for things like the GUI, it will not be soon but is planned.
