Walther's production of the new Taschenpistole mit Hahn (TPH, vest pocket pistol with hammer) started in July 1969, parallel to the Walther TP.Analogous to its sister TP, the TPH was built in caliber .25 ACP (6.35 mm Browning) and .22 long rifle. The pistol was packaged in a brown box which included a manual, a cleaning rod and a certificate with a 5-round …
TPH was released in West Germany in 1969, and was a US restricted import due to GCA68, Limited to law-enforcement and military sales. Strawman purchases allowed some European models to be released in the wild. I have US and German .22s, have never seen a .25 for sale for less than the cost of one of my kidneys. -gonzo.
That said I was prepared with multiple brands of 22lr to find what would work. I had also cleaned up many of the burrs on the stainless and smoothed the back of the slide to keep it from eating my hand prior to shooting them. I regret selling the second one since they have gone up so much in price.
About Walther TPH Pistol. The TPH is blow-back operated and does not have a breech locking system. The barrel is fixed to the frame and fits tightly in the slide so that no bushing is needed. ... Frankly, the IJ TP-22 is an excellent copy of the Walther TPH in .22 RF, with some insignificant and significant differences. They are made a little less expensively; but they work as well or better than the German or US made Walthers that they are copied off of. Current market price seems to be around $200.00 in excellent condition.
The Walther TP and TPH handguns are extremely compact double-action lightweight semiautomatic pistols in .22 Long Rifle and .25 ACP calibers. The TP was produced from 1961-1971 and the improved TPH has been produced continuously since 1968. Models have been produced in Germany and (by Interarms) in the US. Pistols in this size range …
This double-action pistol is US made and features a 2½" barrel, a safety that doubles as a decocker, black grips, stainless-steel finish, and includes one factory 6-round magazine and the soft pouch shown. The pistol is in nice condition with strong springs, smooth action, and crisp trigger. A great example of this quality pocket pistol.
My random TPH observations are: The guns are high quality. The TPH is longer than many competitors. The stainless guns weigh 14 ounces, which is heavier than an Airweight J-frame Smith! The alloy guns weigh 11.5 ounces, which is still a bit heavy compared to the polymer-frame mouse guns like the Kel-Tec P32.

The TPH doesn't leave railroad tracks like the PPK, at least in my experience. I've owned several and still have the .22 in stainless. The TPH's sold in the plastic boxes with an extra mag are more reliable than the first runs in the cardboard box. The grip panels are susceptible to cracking if overtightened.
I initially liked the TPH and used only Stingers in it for CC. Testing and research online showed the Stingers to be the best carry ammo. The 2 1/2" barrel does NOT allow enough velocity for ANY LR to upset or mushroom, but does still get about 1000 fps and penetrate well with the Stingers.
From left, Erma-Excam RX22, Grendel P-10, Walther TPH and Iver Johnson TP-22. The Grendel is .380 ACP, the others .22lr. Of the three, the RX22 stands out for my use. Mainly due to the size - just right for carrying and shooting. The TPH and TP-22 are just a bit too small - great for concealment, but harder (for me, maybe not for you) to shoot.

The sights on the TPH are mounted on the slide. The rear sight can be drifted right or left, but the front sight is part of the slide. Neither is mounted on the barrel. The barrel is mounted to the frame - held in by a cross pin that locks it rigidly in place. The barrel appears to be mounted at a slight angle.

Posts: 838. I'm thinking of getting a U.S. made stainless steel Walther TPH compact .22. It seems like about the smallest .22 I've seen that I might still be able to shoot with some accuracy (due to the single-action capability and decent sights). I want it to carry hiking, fishing, etc. for plinking, snakes, and self defense.
Tags: .22lr, CIA Agents, Walther TPH. In this PACKED episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews a svelte little .22LR that was rumored to have been carried by members of the intelligence community in decades past – the Walther TPH. The TPH is like a shrunken down PPK, with a 6+round capacity of .22LR. This is one high-end, rare-ish …
The German made TPH was finished in blue and had an alloy frame weighing about 11.5 ounces. Caliber was .22 LR and 25 acp, all if not most were imported in .22 lr. The Gun Control Act forbid importation but not manufacuturing small pistol in the US so Ranger Arms began manufacturing the TPH and PPK in the US.

The US made TPH/PPK series was contracted under license from Walther to an outfit that went out of the manufacturing business. The GCA of '68 basically stopped the importation of the TPH (except to LE), therefore the US production. I don't remember the details as to why or when the manufacturing in the US stopped, or the original location of ...
Due to the scarcity of these mags and a used price tag in the $100 to $150 range I decided to see if other magazines could be modified to work in a .22 PP pistols. Some can, some can't. Someone sent me an old Bernadelli .22 mag. A few simple mods and the thing locked in and fed reliably...but they are about as rare as Walther ones.
Walther TPH 22LR magazine. I'm shooting my late Grandfather-in-law's Walther TPH 22LR and I'm on the look-out for a second and/or possibly third magazine. They seem to be as rare as hen's teeth and the few I've found on Gun Broker have an asking price of $80-90 a piece. Also, Triple-K supposedly has their after-market version …

The Test Pistols. We decided to see how well three types of pocket .22 LRs were put together, and find out how well they worked. We chose the Beretta 21A Bobcat, the Taurus PT-22 and the Walther TPH. The Taurus was double-action only (DAO), while the other two had standard double-action triggers.
Although they are not currently made look for an Iver Johnson TP22. If you check Guns America or Gunbroker they occaisionally come up there for about $200-$250 in great condition. They are clones of the Walthers. I have had one for about 30 years and it has been reliable with the right ammo.
