I own a Blacktop JM and I am surprised at how mod-unfriendly these are. It's do-able but not as easy as just swapping parts. I have the Sunburst with black pickguard and the black with white guard, so I swapped pickguards as the all-black JM looks sweet, but the sunburst I wanted to change the pickup and pickup covers to creme and the …
The new Mexican-made Blacktop Jazzmaster looks like a beautiful reissue of a Fender fan favorite. Sometimes though, looks can be deceiving. The Blacktop has more faults than virtues and disappointingly falls far short of its aesthetic expectations. The best part about the guitar, aside from its hot body, is the neck (not surprising for a Fender).
Two negative things about the blacktop is of course the lack of a tremlock and the lack of a rhythm circuit, but I'm not sure that it justifies the 300 Euro price jump. The neck didn't feel quite as nice and thick as the CP jazzmaster, but it was better than expected. Second hand, these jazzmasters would be a major bargain I think.
A racy finish and dual humbuckers. The Blacktop Jazzmaster is now available in a scorching special edition HH model with dual humbucking pickups for even more supercharged tone. Further, a new all-black look features a Candy Apple Red Show More. Reviews. WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm

These guitars drive a wide array of deep, rich and aggressive tones that match the intensity of any playing style.Sleek and supercharged, the Blacktop Jazzmaster HS has a Duncan Designed single-coil Jazzmaster neck pickup and a humbucking bridge pickup, with other distinctive touches including skirted black amp knobs, a Jazzmaster tremolo ...
The lastest iteration of Fender's Vintera Jazzmaster heads back to the 1950s, and is probably the best way to acquire an authentic Jazzmaster with all the classic trimmings. It comes complete with a vintage-correct 7.25" radius fretboard, narrow tall frets and a 50's C-shaped neck – and perhaps most excitingly, it seems the return of ...

The Blacktop Jazzmaster conversion is finished. Aged white knobs and trem tip were the final touches: I also gave the Squier Mascis JM a facelift with a Tortoise pickguard. I love the look of aged white and brown tortoise: Top. CannSound PAT PEND Posts: 1 Joined: Fri Aug 16, 2013 2:55 pm.
This baby sports the Jazzmaster single-coil neck pickup with a specially designed Seymour Duncan humbucker at the bridge, so you can launch into an array of tones. In fact, this particular humbucker was wound to be hot enough to nail aggressive rock sounds, but you'll find the Blacktop Jazzmaster sounds great playing just about anything!
Another important difference between the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster is the scale length (that is, the distance between the bridge and the nut). The Jazzmaster has the typical Fender 25.5-inch scale length, whereas the Jaguar has a shorter 24-inch scale. This means that the strings on the Jag feel a little looser or slinkier, which can make big ...
A kissing cousin to the Jazzmaster, the slightly shorter-scale(24") Jaguar has the same distinctively large body (also made from alder), three-way toggle switching and, like the Jazzmaster, includes an Adjusto-Matic bridge (with an anchored tailpiece). The Blacktop HH version of the Jaguar (color choices are black and silver) sports the same dual set of …
From what I've read on this forum about the Blacktop Jazzmasters, the bridge is one of the most desirable things about the guitar. A lot of people were wondering if they were going to be available for purchase seperately. From what I read they are a good compromise between a standard Jazzmaster bridge and the usual mustang replacement.
The One-of-a-Kind Jazzmaster Pickups. Though often confused with Gibson-style P-90s or "soapbar" pickups, Jazzmaster pickups are completely unique in function and tone. Jazzmaster pickups are constructed similarly to a Strat pickup in many ways, but are much wider and flatter, in what's called a "pancake" wind.
(The Blacktop Jazzmaster actually has one P90-style pickup in addition to one humbucker. The rest of the guitars have two humbuckers.) Fender has stated that they created this series to appeal to modern rock guitarists who want a hotter sound than what single coils provide. The most intriguing aspect of these guitars to me is the $449.99 …
Maybe it's the lights or the food or something. I can't take that chance. And since I don't want my music to be like Stain'd, or whatever the fuck, then I don't use the guitars they use. But to get back on topic: Jazzmasters aren't really good for metal as has been mentioned. They don't have sustain, typically.
Plus I think the guitar might lose too much of its Jazzmaster character since the shortened distance from bridge to tailpiece already increases the sustain quite a bit compared to what a "real" JM sounds like. The first upgrade I'd recommend anyone with a Blacktop, though, is to change the pots. The stock ones are 500K, but 1M is the real …
Honestly, purple is probably the only color I like the gold guards on, but despite the color I'd like to differentiate this from the J Mascis model. andy_tchp. PAT. # 2.972.923. Posts: 7865. Joined: Fri Apr 02, 2010 9:36 am. Location: Brisbane. Re: Blacktop Jazzmaster HS Mod Plans.
Re: Shielding Blacktop Jazzmaster PU covers Post by leastward » Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:59 pm So, if anyone is interested, I went ahead and swapped just the tone pot to 250K and left the vol. pot at 1 Meg, just to see if it would shave off a bit of the extra noise on the high end that I was dealing with.
The stock bridge is really terrible. The Warmoth Modified Mustang bridge is essentially a higher quality version of the stock Blacktop bridge. It allows you to set individual saddle heights. Another variable to contend with. A good inexpensive option is a standard Mustang bridge. $29.99 at

See 4 musician reviews, how 11 pros use it, and where to get a deal on Fender Jazzmaster Blacktop HS, ranked #374 in Solid Body Electric Guitars and rated 5.0 of 5 on Equipboard.
The Blacktop Jazzmaster seems to be mostly designed for those who are into rock music. It features the Jazzmaster body, alder wood, a maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 21 frets, 9.5'' radius, a humbucker and a P90 in the neck, unique bridge, 3 way toggle switch, volume knob and tone knob. I've never been a huge fan of the Jazzmaster body style.
This neck is attached to the body with a bolt-on joint. Fingerboard is made of rosewood and it comes with a set of 21 medium jumbo frets, dot position inlays, 9.50" wide radius and 1.65" synthetic bone nut. The MSRP for this model is set at $739. Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster HS has been rated by 13 musicians.
Of course, there are aftermarket jaguar pickups out there that you could put into your guitar. You can put a hot single coil in the neck and a single-sized humbucker at the bridge. You can route out the body and put whatever you want in there. The fact is that the classic 60s Jag is a much better quality guitar than the blacktop.
Fender's new and innovative Blacktop guitar series expands the sonic horizon of the classic Fender Jaguar® guitar by powering it with high-gain humbucking pickups. Sleek and supercharged, the Blacktop Jaguar HH has dual over-wound alnico humbucking pickups, with other distinctive touches including skirted black amp knobs, a …
The Blacktop Jazzmaster has some attributes that I like. I am not impressed that you have to take the neck off to adjust it on the Classic Player Jazzmaster and Jaguars. That prospect does not excite me in the least. Otherwise I would probably seriously consider a Classic Player. The Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster is another version …
If you're already planning for possible drastic changes, buy a clearance Blacktop Jazzmaster($300-350) which uses a pop-in trem arm and customize it to your needs--routing out the rhythm control is cheap/DIY type job and it already has a bridge humbucker routing which is a plus. Keep in mind if you stray from JM/P90-style pickups …
